The challenge
The Convenience Shop was undertaking a full rebrand and wanted a customer-facing loyalty program at the heart of the new identity. With more than 100 stores across Malta and Gozo, an online store, and around 1.1 million transactions a month (many from daily and weekly repeat shoppers) there was a clear opportunity to recognise and reward customer loyalty in a structured way for the first time.
There was also a parallel data challenge: while every store generated rich transactional data through its POS, that data lived in silos and was never tied back to an identified customer. The brand had volume but no group-wide view of who was shopping and what they were buying, limiting their ability to shape customer and marketing strategy with confidence.
Success would be measured by user uptake and customer feedback as the new brand rolled out, so the program needed to feel like a natural, valuable extension of the new MyConvenience and MySupermarket experience from day one.
The solution
White Label Loyalty powered the launch of MyRewards, a points-for-purchase program designed around how Maltese shoppers actually buy: little and often.
Members earn points on every euro they spend in store or online, with a tiered earning structure that rewards bigger baskets, plus a mechanic that doubles points the following week for any customer who shops on four or more separate days in a single week.
Mechanics like these are made simple by White Label Loyalty's event-based engine: flexible earning rules and behavioural gamification are configured as standard, so the team can shape and evolve the program without custom development. Members can convert points into vouchers, gift them to a friend or family member, or donate them to the Sandra Calleja Charity Foundation, adding a community dimension that fits the brand's local roots.
The whole program is delivered through the MyRewards mobile app on iOS and Android, and built to scale with the rebrand across more than 100 retail locations and the online store.
Key takeaways
- Tiered earning and frequent-shopper mechanics tailored to the high-frequency, low-basket nature of Maltese grocery shopping.
- Flexible redemption keeps the program emotionally and commercially relevant.
- White Label Loyalty's event-based engine makes it easy to layer in personalisation and gamification without custom builds.
- Gives The Convenience Shop a single, group-wide view of customer behaviour and spending for the first time, unlocking data-driven marketing and retention strategy.
